Rising 1st and 2nd Grades

 

The first hour of these classes will enhance your child's reading skills and ensure they continue their love of learning and reading throughout the summer! Students will be assessed on their current level of reading so that appropriate texts can be used. Students will also pick books based on interest of the group. In 1st and 2nd grade workshops the days will have a theme to increase learning fun. After the first hour, we will use what we have read to incorporate math and science concepts through inquiry and adventure-based learning.

 

Some of the themes include:

 

Superhero Day-students will read/learn about literature and reading skills through comic books. Students on this day can dress up like their favorite Superhero!

 

Safari Day-students will dress up in their best Safari outfit as they explore non-fiction texts. We will also incorporate Science standards into this learning, and use the outside as a learning environment.

 

Book Character Day-students will explore different types of characters found in texts. Students will also dress up as their favorite book character as well.

 

Pajama Day-Get up in the morning and come read!

 

*Other ideas include: Tea Party for the Girls, Sports Day for the Boys, and also days created based on the interest of the group.

*Reading 3-D Skills will be implemented throughout each sessions to help your child on their Reading 3-D Assessment.

 

​ALL SESSIONS WILL  BE LED BY A CERTIFIED TEACHER

 

Sessions are available every Monday and Wednesday from June 30th - August 6th, at 10-12, 12-2, 2-4 (remediation specific), and 5-7

All sessions will be at The Greenway Trail across from the Armory. Storm location TBD. Snack will be provided with session.

Choose any or all sessions.  Every session will include different instructional activities. 

 

$30/2 hour session a la carte

$25/2 hour session one week (2 sessions)

$20/2 hour session summer rate (6 sessions or more)
